The Sporting News has named Pittsburgh Pirates star Francisco Liriano their National League Comeback Player-of-the-Year.
Liriano posted a 16-8 record, leading the Pirates in victories. He recorded a 3.02 earned run average,and struck out 163 batters.
Sources indicate that two other Pirates players, reliever Mark Melancon and right fielder Marlon Byrd,finished second and third respectively in the balloting.
New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was named American League Comeback Player-of-the-Year.
