Pennsylvania’s Little League champions from Lionville were upset in the championship game of the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Connecticut in an 8-2 loss in the title game to Newark, Delaware, thus missing a chance at a trip to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport by one game.

Lionville entered the title game with a 5-0 record, including four wins in pool play and a fifth in Friday semifinals.

But, on Sunday night, the Delaware squad got a five-hit, nine-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Nathan Hardcastle, and scored seven of their eight runs in the first inning.

The Little League World Series will begin on Thursday.  Newark will face Urbandale, Iowa on Friday night.
