Police officials were searching Tuesday for a Leeper man who allegedly crashed a car in which three children were passengers, and then fled the scene, all following a police chase in Clarion County.

State Police in Clarion say the suspect, 24 year-old Robert Myers, is already facing charges in connection with multiple assaults on a patron at a Fryburg bar on December 21, an incident in which a threat of an additional assault was allegedly made using a chainsaw.

Police officials say they attempted to make a traffic stop on an S-U-V on Route 36 in Washington Township.  Troopers say the driver sped off, leading them on a chase which reached speeds near 80 miles per hour, and which proceeded along  Washington Church Road and Lake Lucy Road.  The S-U-V crashed into a tree at a Route 208 intersection, and police say the driver fled into the woods, leaving behind four passengers, including three children ages 4 through 7.

Police say another passenger, whom they identified only as an adult male, reported that Myers had been the driver.
