Leeper Soldier Dies In Middle-of-the-Night ATV Crash In Missouri

July 5, 2013

A former Leeper man, stationed at an Army base in Missouri, died on the Fourth of July in the crash of an all-terrain vehicle in the south-central part of that state.

A passenger who also is stationed at Fort Leonard Wood was seriously injured.

Officials say the crash occurred around 2:30 AM on a road in Pulaski County, Missouri.  The Pennsylvania man, 25 year-old Sgt. Timothy Panzar, was reportedly driving the ATV, which left the road and struck a tree.  Panzar and his passenger, 33 year-old Eric Kolbow, address listed as Fort Leonard Wood, were both thrown from the vehicle and into a river.

Panzar was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5:00 AM Thursday.  Kolbow was flown to a Springfield, Missouri hospital, and is listed in serious condition.

C-93 Radio reports that Sgt. Panzar was a 2006 graduate of North Clarion High School, and twice had been injured in military duty.  Panzar and Kolbow were both assigned to the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood.  The accident investigation continues.
