The Leeper man who has been charged in Clarion County for leaving the state with a 13 year-old girl in his company now faces federal charges after his indictment by a federal grand jury.

31 year-old Joshua Baker was arrested in South Dakota last weekend.  Authorities in that state say they were alerted to the whereabouts of Baker and a 13 year-old Clarion girl who had been reported missing on March 28.  Baker reportedly has known the girl for about a year.

In Clarion County, Baker was charged with two different counts of kidnapping and one count of interfering with the custody of a child.  Federal officials say Baker now faces charges of interstate transportation of a minor for the purpose of engaging in unlawful sexual activity and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

The Clarion girl has been placed in what officials describe as “protective custody.”  Baker was jailed upon his apprehension Saturday in Martin, South Dakota.
