Recovery time for Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is estimated at six to nine months.

Bryant underwent surgery on Saturday on a torn Achilles tendon, and may not return to action until the middle of the 2013-2014 NBA season.

The injury was suffered late in the Lakers’ 118-116 win over Golden State on Friday.

The win put the Lakers one game ahead of the Utah Jazz in the race for the final (8th) playoff position in the league’s Western Conference, and Utah owns the tiebreaker.

Los Angeles (44-37) followed the win over the Warriors with a 91-86 home victory over San Antonio on Sunday, raising their lead over the Jazz to a game-and-a-half.  The Lakers have one regular season game remaining, while Utah has two.
