A Kittanning man has been sentenced to one to two years in jail in an incident in which he was accused of running over and dragging a State Police trooper with an all-terrain vehicle.
50 year-old Jeffrey Wiegand will reach one year of jail time this week, and is being given credit for time already served. Wiegand will also serve five years of probation, and has been ordered to pay restitution to the state trooper.
Prosecutors say the incident occurred when troopers responded to an early morning disturbance on Romanko Road in Scrubgrass Township in May, 2012. Wiegand allegedly scuffled with the police, and one trooper was injured by Wiegand’s ATV. The trooper received treatment for injuries at UPMC Northwest.
In exchange for Wiegand’s guilty pleas to charges of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats, charges of simple assault and resisting arrest were dismissed.
