Karvel Anderson scored an amazing 38 points Tuesday night, leading Robert Morris (22-13) to an 89-78 road victory over St. John’s in the opening round of the NIT men’s college basketball tournament at Carnesecca Arena in Jamaica, New York.
Anderson made 12 of his 20 shots from the floor, including 9-of-15 from three-point range, plus 5 of his 6 foul shots. Lucky Jones contributed 25 points and 9 rebounds to the Colonials’ cause, and Anthony Myers-Pate scored 11 points.
The Red Storm, seeded number-one in their regional, bowed out of the tourney with a season record of 20-13. St. John’s was led by Jamal Branch with 22 points and reserve guard Max Hooper, who scored 18.
8th-seed Robert Morris will next face #5 Belmont on Friday night at 9:30 PM.
