Kang Cut In Dominican Ball

November 29, 2017
By

South Korean news agencies are reporting that Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang has been cut by his team in the Dominican Winter League.

Kang was batting only .143 in 24 games, and had struck out 31 times.  Sources, including the Yohap News Agency, have reported that Kang was released by team Aguilas Cibaenas.

Kang did not play for the Pirates in 2017 after an off-season D-U-I arrest in South Korea – reportedly his third such offense.  In 2015 and 2016 for Pittsburgh, he batted .273 for the Pirates and hit a total of 36 home runs.

Kang remains on the Pirates’ unpaid restricted list, and is not officially on their 40-man roster.  He remains under contract for 2018 with an option for 2019, but has been unable to obtain a work visa from South Korea to return to the United States.
