Junior Guerra (7-2) threw a near-complete game on Friday night in Milwaukee as the Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1.

Guerra worked eight-and-two-thirds innings, allowed only four hits and gave up only one run – on a ninth-inning ground ball by Andrew McCutchen.  He struck out three batters and walked only one.

Guerra faced the Pirates’ Steven Brault (0-1), who was called up from “AAA” Indianapolis to make his second Major League start.  Brault lasted six innings, gave up three runs and seven hits, fanned three hitters and walked three.

Chris Carter slammed a two-run home run for Milwaukee (45-56).  Starling Marte recorded two hits for the Pirates (52-49).

On Saturday night, Pittsburgh’s Jameson Taillon (2-1) will make his eighth Major League start, facing the Brewers’ Chase Anderson (5-10).
