Jokinen Wins Hats In Penguins’ Third Straight Victory

October 9, 2013

Jussi Jokinen recorded his first career hat trick on Tuesday night, leading the Pittsburgh Penguins to their third consecutive victory, a 5-2 home win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Pittsburgh has started the season at 3-0 for the first time since 1994, when they opened up with seven straight victories.  They have outscored their three opponents 12-3.

Jokinen opened the game’s scoring, broke a 2-2 tie with his second goal early in the final period and added a power play goal with 6:57 remaining in the game.  Paul Martin and Tanner Glass also scored for Pittsburgh.  Marc-Andre Fleury (3-0) earned his third straight win in goal.  Fleury made 32 saves, and has stopped 79 of the 82 shots he has faced this season.

Scorers for Carolina (1-1-1) were Eric Staal and Nathan Gerbe.  Cam Ward took the loss.

The Penguins will play their first road game on Friday night at Florida.  Pens hockey returns to 96.3 KQW with a game at Tampa Bay on Saturday night.  Radio pregame time will be 6:30 PM
