Despite a bogey on the final hole, J.B. Holmes won for the third time on the PGA Tour on Sunday, capturing the Wells Fargo Classic by one stroke over Jim Furyk at Quail Hollow Golf Course near Charlotte.
Holmes had won the Phoenix Open in both 2006 and 2008. Since then he has undergone brain surgery, and has been sidelined by both a broken ankle and an elbow injury. On Sunday, he posted a one-under-par 71 for a four-day total of 14-under-par 274 (70-67-66-71), edging Furyk despite Furyk’s low Sunday score of 65.
Martin Flores (-12), Jason Bohn (-11) and Justin Rose (-10) finished third, fourth and fifth.
Phil Mickelson, who wowed the crowd with a 63 on Saturday, finished with a 76, and closed tied for eleventh place.
