Two state Senators, including Senator Scott Hutchinson from Oil City, have introduced legislation in Harrisburg to help more disabled veterans obtain free hunting and fishing licenses.
Hutchinson (21st Dist.), who is a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, and 20th District Senator Lisa Baker, the committee chairperson, say they have learned that many disabled veterans who are considered “unemployable” under a federal rating system are being denied the free licenses even though they are entitled to them under current state law.
Baker said, “Financial restraints or confusion over eligibility should never be a barrier…..for a benefit they have undoubtedly earned.”
Baker and Hutchinson have introduced a pair of bills that would clarify eligibility, and ensure that veterans who are declared 100 percent disabled by the Veterans Administration due to “unemployability” will be able to receive the free licenses.
