House Republicans Kill Medicaid Expansion Requirement For Pennsylvania

Republicans in the state House have stripped a Senate provision in a budget-related bill that would have required Governor Tom Corbett to seek federal approval for Medicaid expansion in Pennsylvania under the Affordable Health Care Act.

The senate had approved the package on Sunday, but a key House committee on Monday killed the Medicaid provision, and prepared to send the bill back to the other chamber.

One full action in the House on Monday, coming the day before lawmakers take their two-month summer vacation, was a vote to approve a name change for the state’s Department of Public Welfare to the Department of Human Services.
