A state House committee has voted for the immediate expansion of Medicaid in Pennsylvania, but Radio PA News reports the action could be largely symbolic.

On a 12-to-11 vote, the House Human Services Committee passed a measure that would force a Medicaid expansion in the state.  Republican lawmaker Gene DiGirolomo introduced the bill, and he will try to convince his party to take it to the House floor for a vote.

DiGirolomo pointed out that the Senate passed a similar measure last year.  But, Representative Matt Baker says he doesn’t think a vote would happen in the House while the chamber’s leadership watches to see how the negotiations between the state and the federal government evolve concerning Governor Tom Corbett’s alternative plan.
