The Cincinnati Reds’ Homer Bailey became the first Major League pitcher to throw a no-hitter in the 2013 season, turning the trick Tuesday night in a 3-0 win over the San Francisco Giants in Cincinnati.

Bailey, who also fired the last no-hitter of 2012 some ten months ago, struck out nine Giants batters and walked one.

Bailey (5-6) becomes the third Reds pitcher to toss two no-hitters, the first having come last September 28 against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  The other Reds hurlers with a pair of no-hitters were Jim Maloney and Johnny VanderMeer, who remains the only Major League pitcher to fire two in a row.
