Rajai Davis and Adam Lind both homered on Tuesday, lifting the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 preseason baseball win over the Pittsburgh Pirates (12-17-1).
Toronto (13-16) outhit the Bucs 10-6 with Lind going 2-for-4.
Gaby Sanchez and Michael McKenry drove in Pittsburgh runs. Pirates starter Jonathan Sanchez settled down after allowing three runs in the first inning, but took the loss after working 4-and-two-thirds innings, and giving up four runs and seven hits while striking out six batters and walking one.
Earlier in the day, Sanchez and infielder Brandon Inge had been told they have made the Pirates’ regular season roster. Both players had signed minor league contracts as free agents, and would have had options to opt out of their deals had the team not made the decisions by Tuesday.
On Wednesday afternoon, Pittsburgh will play their final preseason “home” game, hosting the Minnesota Twins (15-14) in Bradenton, Florida. The Bucs will face the New York Yankees in Tampa on Thursday to close out Grapefruit League play before taking on their “AA” affiliate, the Altoona Curve, in Altoona on Saturday. The Pirates’ regular season opener is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 1:35 PM against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
