A Hartstown woman has been sentenced to nearly two years in the Venango County Jail, twelve years of probation and 500 hours of community service time after her guilty pleas in a case in which she was accused of swindling an elderly Oil City-area woman out of nearly $24,000.

48 year-old Sheila Haist was sentenced to 11-and-a-half months to two years, less one day.  She has already served five months in jail.  Haist must also pay nearly $27,000 in restitution and costs.

Prosecutors say Haist took money from the banking and credit card accounts of an 81 year-old Cornplanter Township woman while she lived with the victim’s son at the woman’s home from 2009 until 2011.  Police say they began an investigation following discoveries made by the victim’s son after Haist left him in 2012.

Haist entered guilty pleas in June in Venango County Court to charges of theft by deception and theft by unlawful taking.
