Great American Cleanup Of Pennsylvania Has Begun

March 13, 2018

State officials are looking for volunteers to participate in the annual Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania, which began on the first of this month and will continue through the end of May.

The cleanup efforts include “Pick It Up, PA Days,” scheduled for April 7 through April 30.  They are sponsored each year by PennDOT, the state Department of Environmental Protection and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

During the cleanup days scheduled for April, those registered in official cleanup events will have access to free or reduced disposal at participating landfills, and gloves, trash bags and safety vests will be provided throughout the entire cleanup campaign.

Nearly 133,000 volunteers participated last year and collected more than 5.3 million pounds of litter from Pennsylvania’s roads, trails and shorelines.  PennDOT adds that about sixteen percent of the litter taken from along the state’s roadways was collected by the more than 20,000 volunteers involved in their Adopt-A-Highway program.
