A Grand Valley man has been charged with arson in three house fires that caused an estimated $400,000 in damages in Warren County on Friday.

Officials say 67 year-old James Slagter is also accused of breaking into a fourth home and spreading gasoline on the property.  Police say he did not set a fire at that residence.

One of the buildings was reportedly owned by Slagter, and another was reportedly owned by his brother.  Two of the three homes that were set on fire have been declared total losses.

No one was home at any of the residences, and no injuries were reported.  Five fire companies were enlisted to cover the calls between 6:45 AM and noon on Friday.

Police say Slagter turned himself in.  Charges include three counts of arson, and charges of attempted arson, burglary, reckless endangerment, trespassing and criminal mischief.

After his arraignment on the charges, Slagter was lodged in the Warren County Jail.  His bail is set at $100,000.
