Governor Tom Corbett has asked for federal assistance to help the state and local municipalities deal with the costs of severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area in late June.

Corbett says state officials estimate that the price of weather damage in fourteen counties is in the area of 20 million dollars, and he adds that number could grow if more requests come in from counties and local governments and repair work begins.

In Venango County, at least fifteen municipalities compiled damage estimates, mostly for road and bridge repairs.

Federal funding could cover about 75 percent of those costs and the prices of debris removal and utility problems.
