Gordon Wins Eighth At Martinsville

Jeff Gordon won his first NASCAR Sprint Cup series race since the 2012 finale, passing Matt Kenseth with 21 laps remaining to take the checkered flag at the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 event at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.

It was Gordon’s eighth career win at Martinsville, and moved him into third place in the 2013 Chase for the Cup points standings with only three races remaining.  The Sprint Cup cars will race at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night.

Kenseth, meanwhile, moved into a tie for the lead atop the points standings with Jimmie Johnson, who finished fifth.
