This Friday, November 1, has been set aside to aid military veterans in registering their discharge papers.
The state House of Representatives has designated Friday as “Veterans, Record Your Discharge Day.”
Registering discharge documents can be a prerequisite for the receipt of federal and state benefits. The move can also be helpful for employment applications and estate filings.
And, although there are online registration options available, they can be confusing and time-consuming.
So, in Venango County on Friday, the county Register and Recorder’s office will provide veterans with free discharge documents service. Veterans will then have a permanent record of their military service, and free certified copies of the documents will be available should the veteran’s initial papers be lost.
