Fredonia Man Gets Jail Time For Leaving Scene Of Friends’ Fatal Accident

A Mercer County man was sentenced Tuesday to 3-and-a-half to 14 years in state prison for leaving the scene of a motorcycle accident in which two of his friends died.

23 year-old Joseph Diefenderfer had originally been charged with homicide by motor vehicle.

Testimony in Mercer County Court had revealed that Diefenderfer had been drinking for several hours late on the night of April 20, 2012 along with 25 year-old Benjamin Alabran and 21 year-old Cassandra Keck, both from Greenville.  Alabran and Keck died in a crash involving Alabran’s motorcycle at a Route 18 intersection at about 2:45 AM in the morning.

Investigators allege that Diefenderfer had been traveling with the deceased riders, but on his own motorcycle.  He has been given credit for just over a years’ time served, but was denied his request to serve the rest of his time in the Mercer County Jail.
