Franklin’s Nate Byham, a tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was placed on the injured reserve list on Tuesday, a move that ends his NFL season.
Byham sustained knee and calf injuries in Tampa Bay’s 13-10 loss to Arizona on Sunday. In four games this year, he had caught three passes for 38 yards.
Byham had just seen a promotion to second-string tight end on the Buccaneers’ depth chart, following an injury to tight end Kyle Stocker. The new development leaves Tampa Bay with only Tom Crabtree, who was hurt in the preseason, and undrafted rookie Tim Wright at the position.
Byham spent the 2011 season on the San Francisco 49ers’ injured reserve list following a knee injury sustained during training camp that summer.
