Franklin and Titusville High Schools are both sending one wrestler to the PIAA state wrestling championships, scheduled for this Thursday through Saturday at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Franklin’s Dalton “Chris” Matthews qualified with a second-place finish Saturday at the “AA” Regionals in Sharon. Matthews (34-7) advanced to the championship bout at 170 pounds, and was pinned by Union City’s Tim Vargo, the number-one seed. Matthews had been seeded fourth at the beginning of the competition. At states, he will first face Tristan Sponseller (44-3) from Bermudian Springs.
In the “AAA” Regionals in Altoona, Titusville’s Ehrin Lee finished second at 160 pounds, losing a 3-2 decision to Tyree Spearman, of McDowell, in the final. Lee (31-6) will begin competition in Hershey against Abner Thompson (38-3), from Academy Park.
