Phil Emerson ranked highly among the Franklin High School swimmers who qualified through the District 10 “AA” Swimming and Diving Championships for the PIAA state meet which will start March 13 at Bucknell University.
At the District meeting at the Junker Center at Penn State-Behrend over the weekend, Emerson set school and meet records in winning the 100 freestyle, captured the 50 freestyle, and swam the anchor leg for the winning team in the 400 free relay along with Andy Frederick, Quinn Heffern and Isaac Cooke.
Emerson’s record in the 100 free stands at 45.90. The relay team also set a meet record at 3:15.55.
Frederick also qualified with a second-place finish in the 200 free, and the 200 free relay team of Emerson, Cooke, Heffern and Nick Emerson also placed second. Emerson will be seeded number-one at Bucknell in both the 50 and the 100 free.
For the Lady Knights, Katelyn Steigerwald, a freshman, won the district gold in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:26.85.
Fairview won both “AA” team titles, with the Franklin boys team placing third, behind the Tigers and Grove City. The Lady Knights placed sixth.
