Franklin School Board Passes $31 Million Budget With No Tax Increase

After having earlier considered a spending plan that would have raised real estate taxes by about three percent, the Franklin Area School Board on Monday gave their final approval to a $31 million budget with no tax hike for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

The budget, as approved, would require the transfer of more than $850,000 from the district’s reserve fund balance and the use of previously targeted monies that were not spent.

The Franklin board also voted Monday to transfer students living along Route 965 in Mineral Township from Sandycreek Elementary School to Victory Elementary.  Students in that neighborhood had attended Polk Elementary until the closure of the Polk school two years ago forced the move to Sandycreek.  The board estimates that about 27 students would be affected by the change this fall.
