Franklin Posts 7-2 Win Over Seton LaSalle To Move To PIAA “AA” Quarterfinals

Ryan Madden and Kirk Breithaupt both drove in a pair of runs on Tuesday, leading the Franklin Knights to a 7-2 victory over Seton LaSalle in the rain-delayed first round of the PIAA “AA” high school baseball tournament at Jerry Uht Park in Erie.

The win propelled the Knights (19-2) into the quarterfinal round of the state tourney, where they will face undefeated District 6 champion Martinsburg Central (22-0) at 4:00 PM Thursday in a game scheduled to be played at Kuntz Field in Punxsutawney.

Joe Desko contributed an RBI base hit for Franklin.  Other runs for the D-10 champions scored on an error and a wild pitch.

Franklin starter Zach Guth (7-0) pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits and striking out 11 batters.

Liam Sweeney and Matt Wilke drove home the runs for Seton LaSalle (15-7).  David Boehme took the loss for the WPIAL (D-7) runners-up.
