A Franklin man was presented Thursday with a Purple Heart for which he qualified 45 years ago in a battle in Vietnam.
65 year-old Harold Bell was honored by representatives of local veterans groups at a ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial in Franklin’s South Park.
Bell was injured in a fire battle on Hill 488 in Vietnam in June, 1969. After he returned to Venango County, he spent a career of work with PennDOT. He never received his Purple Heart until a daughter looked into the matter and arranged for the paperwork for an investigation into the oversight through the office of Congressman Glenn Thompson.
The Franklin VFW Post co-ordinated Thursday morning’s ceremony.
