Franklin Firefighters Battle Downtown Blaze

February 19, 2013
By

Franklin firefighters were called during the midday Tuesday to a reported structure fire in the middle of the city’s business district.

Early reports indicate that the blaze broke out in the middle of the 1200 block of Liberty Street in the area of 1243 and 1245 Liberty Street.

The fire appears to have originated in the upper rear of the multi-story building housing the Subway Restaurant and several other businesses.  First-responders were trying to extinguish the fire from both Liberty and Buffalo Streets.  Emergency crews are controlling traffic and rerouting pedestrians around the response area.

Nothing was known early on about the origin of the fire.  Crews were still on the scene as of mid-afternoon.
