A New Castle woman who has owned a tobacco shop in Franklin entered a guilty plea in Venango County Court this week to a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
30 year-old Michelle Cioffi was charged after a raid in November, 2011 turned up over 3,000 grams of synthetic marijuana at her shop. The raid by officials of the state Attorney General’s office and Franklin City Police followed by five months the signing of a new Pennsylvania law banning such substances.
Cioffi was accused of allowing the now-illegal drug to be sold at her store on Franklin’s 13th Street.
Cioffi was sentenced to five years probation, was fined, and was ordered to forfeit the mercantile license for the store and to close the business.
