State Police officials in Forest County say a Franklin-area man is being charged in connection with an automobile accident in which a utility pole was sheared off just moments before a fire destroyed a Tionesta newspaper office.
Fire officials have speculated that the Monday morning fire was caused by sparking from downed electric lines. The automobile accident occurred around 5:55 AM Monday, fewer than 10 minutes before the fire at The Forest Press was first discovered.
Troopers at the Marienville station say 25 year-old Kevin Wilson had fled the scene of the accident, but was apprehended a short distance from the scene.
Police say Wilson was traveling south on Route 36 in Tionesta near the intersection with Route 62 when his vehicle left the road and sheared off the pole. The vehicle rolled over onto its roof and came to rest in the middle of the highway.
