Sidney Crosby set a personal best with his goal, tallying a point in each of the first seven games of the season. Jussi Jokinen, Chris Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin also scored for Pittsburgh, which holds a 3-point edge over Carolina in the new NHL Metropolitan Division. Marc-Andre Fleury (6-0) earned the win in goal, stopping 24 of 25 shots.
Wayne Simmonds scored for the Flyers. Philadelphia goaltender Steve Mason (1-5) sustained the loss.
The Penguins will face Vancouver in a Saturday afternoon (1:00 PM) home game at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
