Four Reds Homers Sink Pirates 4-1

The Cincinnati Reds (43-28) used four solo home runs on Monday night to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 in the first-game of a four-game series at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

Zack Cozart and Todd Frazier both homered off Pittsburgh starter Francisco Liriano (5-3; 2.44 ERA), and Joey Votto and Jay Bruce hit shots off reliever Bryan Morris.  The Reds outhit the Pirates 8-7 with Votto going 2-for-4.

For Pittsburgh (41-29), Andrew McCutchen and Russell Martin both recorded two hits with Martin driving McCutchen home with the only run with a sixth-inning double.

Reds starter Mike Leake (7-3; 2.64 ERA) earned the win, extending his record over his last seven starts to 5-1 with a 1.15 ERA.  Aroldis Chapman earned his 18th save in 20 opportunities.

In the second game of the series on Tuesday night, Pittsburgh’s Charlie Morton (0-1; 3.60 ERA) will make his second start of the season, facing undefeated Mat Latos (6-0; 3.08 ERA).
