Former Slippery Rock Football Player Killed In Pittsburgh

August 5, 2013

Police in Pittsburgh are investigating the shooting death over the weekend of a former Slippery Rock University football player.

25 year-old Zachary Sheridan, from the Pittsburgh suburb of Brookline, was shot and killed while trying to leave the scene of a fight at an Oakland hot dog shop around 3:30 AM Saturday.  Sheridan was pronounced dead at a Pittsburgh hospital just moments after the shooting.

As of Monday morning, police had not announced the name or names of any suspects.

Sheridan started for three years for Slippery Rock, and graduated from the Butler County school in 2011.  He had previously been a member of the 2004 Seton LaSalle High School team that won the WPIAL (District 7) football championship.
