Five People Die On Pennsylvania Highways During The Christmas Travel Period

December 29, 2017
By

Even while they urge safe and sober driving over the New Year’s holiday, State Police officials have released the statistics regarding the automobile crashes their troopers investigated over the three-day Christmas travel period from December 23 through December 25.

The PSP says five people died and 102 others were injured in the 529 crashes to which they responded.  Two of the fatalities occurred in Limestone Township in Warren County when a vehicle left a remote roadway and struck several fence posts and a tree.

The State Police say sixty of the crashes to which they responded involved alcohol.  Troopers arrested 243 people for driving under the influence and issued 1,261 speeding tickets.

These statistics cover only the incidents to which the State Police responded, and not to those crashes covered by municipal police and other departments.
