Fish And Boat Commission Cautions About Safety On Ice

December 21, 2017
By

Following Monday’s death of a fisherman who fell through the ice at Lake Arthur in Butler County, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is offering some advice about safety on the ice.

Commission spokesman Ryan Walt says many factors contribute to how thick ice can be from place to place.  They include the temperature, sun, wind, currents and structures in the water such as bridges.

The commission advises us to never fish on ice that is less than four inches thick, and to avoid areas where there are springs or there is tributary intake.

Walt told Radio PA News it is important for those who go onto the ice for fishing or any other reason to be prepared for anything.  And, dress appropriately.
