Traffic on Route 8 in Reno was disrupted for more than an hour-and-a-half late Wednesday afternoon when a tree fell across the four-lane highway and onto a car whose driver had left the road in an attempt to avoid damage.
Police officials say 44 year-old Dave Thomas, from Oil City, escaped injury when he swerved his southbound car into a yard, trying to avoid being hit by a falling segment of the tree. Unfortunately, his move left his vehicle next to the remainder of the tree’s multiple trunks, where it was crushed by a second part of the tree which fell moments later.
Traffic was completely halted for about fifteen minutes, and was then re-routed around the tree which was removed in segments by members of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department and officers from the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department.
All four lanes of Route 8 were reopened by about 5:30 PM.
