Endangered Species Bill Passes State House Committee

A bill that would require the political oversight of decisions regarding endangered species in Pennsylvania passed the state House Game and Fisheries Committee on Wednesday, and is on its way to the full House.

Much debate has been produced over the measure which proposes to give the decision-making process regarding endangered and threatened species over to an Independent Regulatory Review Committee and to state lawmakers.

Opponents say the process should remain in the hands of the Pennsylvania Game and Fish and Boat Commissions and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and should not be politicized.
