PennDOT announced on Wednesday that the Emlenton Hill Improvement Project will begin shortly after the first of next month.
Spokesman Jim Carroll said the three-phase project will include a “full-depth” reconstruction of about a mile-and-a-half of Route 38 in Scrubgrass Townshp and Emlenton Borough from the intersection with Route 208 to the juncture with Route 268.
The $17-million job is scheduled to begin on March 4 and to be completed in the spring of 2015. The official detour will utilize Interstate 80 between the Emlenton and St. Petersburg exits.
PennDOT says the first three-and-a-half month phase of the project will extend from the intersection of Route 208 to Big Bend Road. Only local traffic will be allowed through the area. The second phase will take about a month, and will involve the replacement of a box culvert between Big Bend Road and Squaw Valley Road. For about five days during that work, no traffic will be allowed to pass through the work zone. The third phase will include the work to be done from Squaw Valley Road to Route 268. Temporary access will be allowed during the final phase of the project via Honeysuckle Road.
