A Polk-area man who was charged after he allegedly repeatedly rammed a carport with his van in a private driveway has been accused of driving while “huffing” an inhalant identified as an industrial-strength aerosol duster.

State Police at the Mercer station in Jackson Center say 52 year-old Ralph Leard was reportedly “huffing” while he was causing damage to a home in Worth Township, again as he fled the scene, and as they tried to arrest him after he wrecked his van in a ditch on Harrisville Road.

Troopers say charges against Leard include driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and the illegal use of a noxious substance.  The counts stem from a series of incidents reported on May 6.
