Could Jay Paterno Challenge Glenn Thompson For Congressional Seat?

October 26, 2013

Sources in the central part of the state say that former Penn State assistant football coach Jay Paterno may be mulling a run for Congress against Republican incumbent Glenn Thompson.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg has reported that several prominent Democratic political officials in the State College area claim Paterno has shown interest in a Congressional race.  The paper added that Paterno has not responded to their requests for interviews about the matter.

Website pennlive.com reports that state Treasurer Rob McCord urged Paterno to run at the recent Centre County Democratic dinner.  McCord is campaigning for Governor.

While Paterno’s famous father, longtime Penn State head coach Joe Paterno, was a longtime Republican backer, Centre County Democratic official Dianne Gregg told pennlive.com that Jay Paterno has been active in the Democratic Party since the first campaign of President Barack Obama.
