The federal antitrust lawsuit filed against the NCAA by Governor Tom Corbett, in response to the college sports governing body’s sanctions against Penn State University, has been dismissed.

Federal Judge Yvette Kane says the suit’s claims that the NCAA had violated anti-trust regulations were not supported by the plaintiff’s arguments.  Kane did write,”In another forum the complaint’s appeal to equity and common sense may win the day, but in the antitrust world these arguments fail to advance the ball.”  She called the aim of the suit a “Hail Mary pass.”

A second similar lawsuit is pending, having been filed by Jay Paterno, son of former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, another former Nittany Lions assistant coach, nine former players, and several Penn State faculty members and trustees.
