A Coraopolis man, who was convicted in Venango County Court of involuntary manslaughter in the accidental shooting death of his cousin, has been sentenced to two to five years in prison.

39 year-old Frank Whiteside-Bartley was convicted in October in the death of 33 year-old Eriek Peoples, from Canton, Ohio, near a railroad tressel near Reeds Furnace Road in Mineral Township.

The defendant and the victim were among four people who had been carrying handguns outside their parked vehicle at that location in June, 2010.  Police had said that Whiteside-Bartley’s gun discharged as he climbed into the back seat of the vehicle.  A bullet struck Peoples in the chest as he was settling himself into the front passenger seat.
