Many parts of the Oil Region escaped Wednesday without any kind of thunderstorms, but in Cook Forest, roads were closed and buildings were damaged by falling trees in a storm that swept through parts of Clarion, Jefferson and Forest Counties.
Route 36 was closed for several hours in areas between Leeper and Cooksburg. Damage was also reported in Sigel and in Clarington.
Several power outages were reported.
Elsewhere, about 500 customers on Oil City’s West End were affected by an electrical outage late Wednesday night, although it was not clear whether the problem was created by a storm. Weather forecasters say there is still a threat of storms through Friday morning.
