Colorado Beats The Pens 4-2 In Denver

Tyson Barrie scored twice on Monday night as the Colorado Avalanche (16-15-2) defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 in a game contested in Denver.

After the Pens tied the score at 1-1 on a first-period goal by Chad Ruhwedel, The Avs took a 3-1 lead with a pair of scores in the second frame.  Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin cut the advantage to 3-2 early in the third period, but Colorado tacked on an empty-netter by Mikko Rantanen with 1:33 left in the game.

J.T. Compher also scored for Colorado.  Semyon Varlamov (11-8-1) was the winning goaltender with 32 saves.  Matt Murray (12-9-1) stopped 33 shots, but took the loss.

Pittsburgh (17-15-3) went 1-2 on a three-game road trip which ended Monday.  A three-game homestand begins Thursday night with the Penguins hosting Columbus (20-13-1).  Radio pregame time on 96.3 KQW will be 6:30 PM.
