A New Jersey man standing trial in the deaths of his parents in Butler County was sentenced in Butler County Court on Wednesday to 35 to 80 years in prison.
42 year-old Colin Abbott was accused in the deaths of his father, 65 year-old Kenneth Abbott, and his step-mother, 55 year-old Celeste Abbott. The charred bodies of the parents were found in July, 2011 near a pond on their property in Brady Township south of Slippery Rock. Colin Abbott had told relatives the couple had died in a fiery car crash in New Jersey the previous month.
Abbott on Tuesday had entered pleas of “no contest” to two charges of third-degree murder. That allowed him to escape the death penalty.
Abbott’s parents were millionaires, and money was believed to be the motive in their murders.
