The New Jersey man who was sentenced last month to 35-to-80 years in prison in the murders of his parents in 2011 has filed a court motion to withdraw his plea.
42 year-old Colin Abbott reportedly claims he was rushed into entering a “no contest” plea to two counts of third-degree murder. He filed a handwritten statement in Butler County Court on Monday that also detailed his dissatisfaction with his attorney.
Abbott was charged in the deaths of his father, 65-year-old Kenneth Abbott, and his stepmother, 55 year-old Celeste Abbott. After the younger Abbott told other relatives in July, 2011 that his parents had died in a fiery car crash in New Jersey the previous month, an investigation resulted in the discovery of the parents’ charred remains near a pond on their property in Brady Township south of Slippery Rock.
