Cole Stops Phillies With Arm And Bat In Pirates’ 5-2 Win In Philadelphia

Gerrit Cole evened his record at 7-7 with a six-inning winning start on Wednesday night, and he recorded the game-winning RBI in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 5-2 victory at Philadelphia.

Cole allowed two runs and seven hits over six innings, striking out eight hitters and walking only one.  He also broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run single in a four-run fourth inning.

Jordy Mercer tallied two hits and an RBI for the Pirates (39-46),while Josh Bell and David Freese also drove in runs.

Maikel Franco slammed a two-run home run for the Phillies (28-55), and Daniel Nava recorded three hits.  Philadelphia starter Ben Lively (1-4) took the loss.

The Pirates have taken two of the first three games in the series in Philadelphia, and will send Chad Kuhl (2-6) against the Phillies in the series finale on Thursday night (6:05 PM).  Philadelphia is scheduled to start Jeremy Hellickson (5-5).
